Opinion on PVRINOX and the future of movie theatre business
PVRINOX has been trading in a range for several years now, and I wanted to understand the community’s thoughts on its prospects. From my perspective, the shift to OTT platforms and shorter theatrical release windows have disrupted its traditional business model. However, I feel that the movie theatre business in India isn’t going to vanish entirely. Cultural habits, occasional blockbusters, and the social experience of watching movies in theatres still hold significant value here. If any player is likely to survive and dominate in this industry, I believe it’s PVRINOX, given its scale and brand recognition. But with these challenges, is there still a long-term investment case for the company? I’m not so aware of fundamental analysis, I noticed that its revenue has increased significantly from ₹1,800 crores in 2016 to approx ₹6,000 in 2024(The price of the stock has been in the same place). Although it has not been profitable in the last 5 years. Do you see movie theatres sustaining in the long run? If yes, do you think PVRINOX is positioned well enough to emerge stronger, or the business model is doomed and PVRINOX is facing a slow death.4
