Hardware startups. I will not promote

IMO almost all need co-founder posts or openings are for software startups, coming from a hardware background its been tough finding good projects to be involved in. I'm really interested in helping build an awesome physical product. I feel like I'm missing something when looking for such co-founders. Any suggestions on where I should look for opportunities in hardware? Edit : Background in mechanical and been in automotive for nearly 15yrs.
