Startup Name Similar to Another Company’s Service Offering. Will TM Protect me?

I started a US company and purchased a domain name that made sense for the products and services I intend to sell. The domain name is close to the name of an annual event that another company that puts on for similar customers, however, we offer patently different services. This company does not have a trademark or service mark in either the U.S. or UK (they are a UK based organization). The name of the annual conference is the same name of my company; with the exception they put another word after their name. Example; my company name is “Bob” and theirs is The Bob Conference. I didn’t know this conference existed in the UK until I did a search after I bought the domain. I filed for a U.S. trademark for the name and expect to get it in the next six months. I know this doesn’t afford me the right to go after them, but does it protect me? Should I be concerned that regardless of not having a trademark, they will still come after my company? I’ve looked into trademark insurance, but as a new company, I haven’t had any luck in finding a company that will bind coverage. Any advice?
