[Fundraising] How long should a "friends and family" round of funding last, and how should one and run/staff company during a raise? I will not promote

I'd wanted to reach out to the group in order to ask a question on the concept of so-called "friends and family pre-seed rounds" and about how much of a thing they are in real world startups (especially here in the USA), and whether they are a good way to start early stage or preseed funding?
