What are the immediate pressing issues of Sikkim in terms of development and policies that need to be focused on?
For starters, the road to STNM hospital. R&D for suicide prevention. Tax reduction. Electricity and water supply. Roads in North and West Sikkim. Gangtok traffic. Timely salary payments. Recruitments. If it were me, I'd do a mandatory Vitamin D supplementation for each and everyone. Since most Sikkimese are deficient in Vitamin D and it also causes depression. I'd also have the water supply checked for heavy metal toxicities. With all due respect, I just saw a video wherein our HCM is addressing the media, talking of his upcoming janta bhets, and expressing concern over those sick and needy people who couldn't meet the CM for financial assistance. But why must the sick and needy people meet "the CM" for financial assistance? There should be a system in place for this, right? A system that is irrespective of the political inclination of the citizens, a just and fair method that has been set in place to aid and assist the needy. I don't think it is commonplace in any other state, that your family member would fall ill, you rush to meet the CM, the CM is unavailable but his wife gives you 50k and you return home happy. From where is she distributing all this money? It is definitely not her own hard-earned moolah. Why can't everything be in a systematic manner? Why is it necessary to write applications to the CM, wait in line, go to Mintokgang for each and everything? Why is everything, including the state's entire finance, controlled only at one point? We also need free and fair examinations conducted by an impartial SPSC, that will recruit able and hardworking candidates for available posts on a yearly basis. This way, the students will work hard and only the truly deserving shall hold important official positions. These same officers will shape the future of Sikkim. What can we expect from people who have been given freebies for jobs? They will surely take it for granted. They will neither respect their job nor make any efforts to deliver. I am personally tired of the melas, janta bhets, bhashans, tamashas, dhamash etc. It is just hoardings and celebrations all the way, emptying public exchequer. Posters and posters of one man. This is unnecessary. Why don' t we see something constructive being done? Except the west point mall, wellness park, don't see much happening. So many brilliant heads working together to run this tiny state, but all we see is one drama after another. Stuff like the Samson Tamang case, Uma Rai case, kuni ke, kuni ke. You know, stuff causing religious, regional, communal disharmony. Petty stuff. Instead of moving forward and increasing the general happiness index of our tiny beautiful state, we are only regressing backwards. Sikkimese have been fragmented into tiny communities, each fighting the other. There is so much to be done. But we need to start somewhere. The Facebook news channels are full of press conferences by different parties and groups, talking of irrelevant issues, screaming at the top of their lungs. Sensationalized. According to you, what are some of the important stuff that needs immediate attention from the Government?2
