Proprietary GMB Profile Ranking Software?

I worked for a large SEO agency for 2 years and have followed numerous accounts on twitter but never heard of anything like this before until the past couple months. There's a local SEO agency in my town with some proprietary software that drives rankings on GMB Map Pack (no clue what the software actually does) but I know the website that they're doing it on but can't seem to reverse engineer it. It actually is working really well for my buddy that's a plumber and is using this agency/software. They don't have a physical GMB location but are crushing the map pack rankings somehow. I also spoke to another marketing agency, for engaging with my own restoration business, that said they also have a software that can boost our GMB rankings within a matter of weeks. Has anyone heard of this or know anything about it? Winning in the map pack would be huge for my business, thanks in advance.
