Honest Backlink Results

I work in the home improvement industry for local businesses and wanted to know if anyone else actually gets results from backlinks. My concern is that most backlink are not incredibly helpful unless it comes from a great source or has some referral potential. I have spent time analyzing current client links and most come from spam sources. AHrefs show historically that most client have lost a TON of backlinks, but my guess is that it's all spam that Google has recognized and gotten rid of. Despite losing such a high number, I see little impact. I have also tried various backlink building companies and though their Domain ratings are usually between 30-60 and are from sources that are related to home improvement, I see very little impact on individual pages. There is a positive impact, but not worth the cost when I could spend that time adding and optimizing more content. 1. What kinds of backlinks are you getting and are they local and from relevant industries? 2. What kind of impact are you seeing? How many links per page, DA/DR of backlinks, results, etc. 3. What methods are you using to get these backlinks. How much effort is spent doing this and is it worth it?
