Guest posts?

So I usually don't offer guest posting on sites I build for my customers. I have a customer in the boating industry that's demanding I make a separate page just for guest posts and more importantly that we advertise for guest posting and link exchange. I'm pretty sure this violates google best practices specifically the link exchange. The questions I have is should I do this just to make the customer happy? And am I unleashing hell on myself by doing this?
