December Update - possible bug?

In one of the SEO groups on Facebook, someone mentioned that Google is investigating the December Update because a significant number of sites participating in their program for quality publishers have been affected. Apparently, some publishers received information from Google support that the matter is being looked into. What do you think about this? Fake news, rumors? Or maybe has anyone heard anything about it and can confirm?
