{SEO Test} Re-Publishing Old Existing Non-performing Pages for Algorithm Boost & how to find them
There's an age-old observation in SEO that editing old content can result in a performance boost. This is written to help SEOs realize its Ok to test content, and try things, an undo things and try again. Obviously there are many hypothesis as to why: * Improved focus./targeting * Move to topical authority * Broader Footprint But one I've always had but never shared - for older content that never performed: * Algorithm Update Re-crawl What do I mean by this? If you look at which pages are crawled - there's an undeniable correlation between pages with regular (weekly at least) organic traffic getting automatically crawled (and a whole bunch more). So pages that are old and haven't been indexed - if you put in a removal request (you technically should "noindex" them to do this but I've noticed recently you don't have to, which makes this much easier now) - and then re-index them - you can see a bump if they didn't have enough topical authority supporting them when reposted # No Edits For this test - no edits or changes to the page, no changes to the URL or title. # Assumptions for Test * Must be an old page that never performed - e.g. one from the early days - maybe 12 months old * Must be within your current topical authority * Probably wont work on content that is <5 months old * Not saying don't try it - absolutely try it - but if it does nothing, it might just prove the hypothesis # No Guarantees Not guaranteeing clicks or rank changes - its just an interesting way to shuffle a page back through the algorithm - and it would be interesting to see if anyone else gets results3
