Do hyphens impact exact match domain?

Has anyone tested whether hyphens impact ranking when competing against non-hyphenated EMD? e.g. bestfruitcakes.com vs best-fruit-cakes And if a two word separated by hyphens isn’t impacted, are three words with hyphens worse off and so on so forth for 5 word domains? Obviously more goes into ranking than EMD. But assuming the websites are like for like.
