Acquiring a competitor & serving their site as a white label: SEO pitfalls to avoid?
Hey SEO experts, I’m in the process of acquiring a direct competitor, and my plan is to serve their website using my own codebase in a white-label setup while keeping their domain and brand identity intact. I want to ensure that this transition doesn’t hurt the acquired site’s rankings (or my main site’s rankings). What are the key SEO pitfalls I should watch out for? Some specific concerns I have: 1. **Duplicate content risks**: Since both sites will share the same backend and possibly similar content, how do I avoid cannibalization? 2. **Technical SEO considerations**: Any issues I should anticipate when swapping out their old infrastructure for mine? 3. **Backlink strategy**: Should I keep their existing links as is, or would consolidating some of them with my main site be beneficial? 4. **Google’s perception**: Could Google see this as a PBN or some other tactic that might negatively impact rankings? 5. **Any real-world experiences?** Have you done something similar, and what worked/didn’t work? Thanks for any insights!2
