A link building question: is it worth building multiple links from the same domain over time?

I have SEO projects that run for years, because, as we all know, SEO cannot be done once and forever and you need to go back to it as time goes by. So here is the question: if one day I was lucky to build a backlink from a well-established website/domain, and now I have a chance to build another one from the same domain, let's say in an article, leading to a second page on my target website, is it worth the effort? I have a feeling that each page on my site has its own external link profile, and its ranking more depends on its own incoming links rather than general website's link profile.
