Wanting to join gym but afaid of being made fun of

Hello guys. I'm a 21 yr old male. I'm in the city for winter vacations and wanted to join gym as I'm mostly bored at home. But what I'm afraid of is that I'll be made fun of because of being overweight and looks ( I've always been called chinese, nepali, etc.) Do these things happen in or am I overthinking ?
