    Punjab vs Panjab

Since there’s a huge amount of people debating the A and the U in Punjab. I would like to clear it out using phonetics and debunk the whole thing. The “u” used in Punjab is actually the vowel sound “ʌ” in the IPA much like but, trust, under (nobody pronounces these words as boot, troost or oonder for my friends who think people might pronounce our state “Poonjab”). Panjab on the other hand will be the wrong interpretation otrect pronounciation ਪੰਜਾਬ since pan has the vowel sound “æ” as in cat, rat, mad, which is the equivalent of prounouncing “PANjab” which is utterly wrong. I’ve attached the images for the visual learners. IPA sounds, Punjab IPA code, Umbrella (for giving U context) , and Pan (to give Panjab prounciation context). Now my two cents on the topic : People with lack of English grammar and poor understanding of phonetics (except the Mod mukh mantri ; sorry bro) came with the idea that Punjab is written with a “U” so there it must be “poonjab” which is wrong so make it Panjab, or it couple happen due to false equivalence of alphabets in the two languages.
