Tis Hazari gets its name from a significant event in Sikh history...!!
Tis Hazari, a neighborhood in Old Delhi, holds great significance in Sikh history. The name "Tis Hazari" originates from the Punjabi words "tis" (thirty) and "Hazari" (thousand), symbolizing the 30,000-strong Sikh force led by Baghel Singh that camped there in 1783 before the Battle of Delhi . This pivotal event marked a significant moment in Indian history, as the Sikhs emerged victorious and captured the Red Fort. Today, Tis Hazari is an essential part of Delhi, housing one of the six District Courts under the Delhi High Court. The area is also home to the Tis Hazari Courts Complex, which was inaugurated in 1958.2
