As a non-punjabi person, the Diljit issue, if you can even call it an issue, is not representative of a general country-wide view. It's standard issue hate by a fringe group to a successful person.
Before i start, this is not a nationalism post, its more of a harmonizing post because i saw some post on my suggested talking about the hate Diljit is getting. I don't know who has to know this but as a non Punjabi, even with the limited infra in India, I loved the concert. People of non-Sikh faith also dressed up like Diljit, complete with Dastar. That's not a sign of a hater. It's a sign of someone who wants to appreciate the culture. I went in Bangalore, but I saw the same happening around the country via talk with friends. No true Indian can deny the contributions Punjab has culturally, industrially, agriculturally and security wise. It's just the hateful few who have nothing better to do in life and as all know, ignorance brews more ignorance. You can educate a someone who is unaware, but you cannot educate an ignorant person. Here on reddit I was commenting against this hateful "Panjab controversy" by explaining the entomology of Panjab, and his comeback was basically Panjab didn't make sense since it's not a Pan (ik, this is the level of discourse/intellect people have). I, along with many other I know, have always been interested in Punjabi culture be it the Sikh religion or the prominent sufi influence of punjab despite being all the way down south. Finally, the contributions of Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai, Maharaja Ranjit singh Maharaja Duleep Singh towards the advancement of the country cannot be discounted. F the hate from these extremists who are the true separatist and reason for a neutral person to also become radicalized. I'm sure most of you know all this and that the hate is from a small faction, but just wanted to add a drop of positivity in this sea of negativity.2
