Unethical Behavior by a Psychiatrist – Need Suggestions"
Hello everyone! Today, my friend and I visited a physiatrist in Pune because she has been experiencing panic attacks and stress for a long time. I had initially suggested she see a psychologist, but due to her office timings, she couldn't manage to visit the one I recommended. Unfortunately, the doctor she ended up seeing was extremely rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful. When my friend explained her struggles, which stemmed from her toxic office culture and other issues, he initially asked about her sex life. While this might have been relevant in some contexts, he then went on to ask intrusive and inappropriate questions, such as whom she fantasizes about—especially after learning that she is bisexual. He also told her she just had to "adjust" to the toxic office environment. Additionally, he asked her degrading questions about her smoking habits and other personal matters, making her feel extremely uncomfortable. When she shared this experience with me, I was furious because no professional should make a patient feel this way. As her local guardian, I immediately called the doctor and confronted him about how he had made her uncomfortable. However, he simply told me to come to his clinic and talk, then abruptly cut the call. I want to ask you all—is this kind of behavior acceptable? What steps should we take next regarding this situation? I would appreciate any advice you can offer.2
