First week in Pune- a review
I recently moved to Pune from Mangalore (Tier 2) for work purposes and wanted to give my thoughts on what I've noticed about the city so far. My intention is to highlight some gaps in development and see how to contribute towards resolving them. Here goes: **Litter & Trash everywhere:** For a city dubbed as "oxford of the east" with so many educational institutions, Pune is uncharacteristically dirty and littered. I operate between Viman Nagar and Mangalwar Pett and there are just heaps of trash everywhere I look. Walking or taking a rickshaw, I am assaulted by a new smell every half a km or so. Is this gross negligence on the municipal's part? A simple solution would be to mandate having dustbins every couple of metres (literally), or just employing more people to be cleaning areas multiple times throughout the day. After all, there is no shortage of manpower. **Traffic congestion and smog** Pune suffers from serious traffic congestion, and this contributes to serious air and sound pollution. I see 2Ws getting onto the footpath to subvert traffic. We talk about "decarbonising mobility" through electrification, but in reality, the best way to decarbonise is to simply reduce the number of passenger vehicles on the road. Introduce better modes of public transport like more bus routes and maybe even limo rickshaw taxis. This might take a bit longer to solve\] than the trash problem but can still be implemented within the near future. I know the points above are an issue in all Tier 1 cities. I don't mean to offend anyone by this post. If any redditors are actively working on tackling these issues in any way please do let me know in the comments, let's work together! **I request helpful/constructive feedback only**4
