Garuda and Aruna In Kalingan Temples

Garuda is the mount ( vahan or carrier) of the god Vishnu .Garuda is also considered as a Hindu deity, often found with folded hands in front of Vishnu temples in Indian temples. He is depicted as having the head and wings of an eagle, but with a human body. Garuda is said to be the younger brother of Aruna, the charioteer of the sun god. Garuda's enmity with the nagas (serpents) is attributed to his mother being tricked into slavery by her sister, Kadru, the mother of the nagas. https://lunarsecstacy.com/2021/12/13/kalingan-temple-architecture-and-its-gradual-progression/ Here is the second photo of Arun sitting with folded hands atop the Arun Stambha. This is now in front of the Mahaprabhu Jagannath temple but it was earlier in front of the Sun Temple at Konark. https://lunarsecstacy.com/2021/04/02/archaeological-monuments-may-be-used-as-global-sea-level-monitors/
