Bengali migrants stripped, thrashed & paraded in Odisha’s Sundargarh for ‘misbehaving’ with a local woman

Eight daily wage workers from Murshidabad in West Bengal were allegedly stripped, thrashed and paraded with hands tied by a group of “irate locals” in Odisha’s Sundargarh town after one of them was accused of misbehaving with a woman. According to police sources, the group of locals, who were upset after a woman accused one of the eight workers of barging into her house and misbehaving with her, raided the area where the migrant workers were residing and assaulted them. The workers, who worked in construction, were forced to strip in public and were paraded for around 1 km with their hands tied. On being informed, police reached the spot, dispersed the crowd and took the eight workers to the police station. DIG Rourkela Brijesh Rai said two cases have been registered at the Sundargarh town police station: one against the worker who allegedly misbehaved with the woman and another case against the locals based on the complaint of the workers. “We are verifying the allegations of both the sides,” DIG, Rourkela, Brijesh Ray.
