Stone Carving In Odisha
Stone carving is one of the ancient practices of Odishan artisans. This practice has sustained over generations and that's how the Odishan temples are known for their peculiar temple architecture better known as " Kalingan style of temple architecture" .Stone carving is nothing but the practice of sculpting stone into art and utilitarian objects. An outline of sorts is first drawn on the cut-to-size stone. Once the outline is engraved, the final figure is brought out by removing the unwanted portions. Odisha artisans use Soap Stone, Sand Stone Granite etc for statues of deities, utility products like candle stands, pen stands, paperweights , lamp bases and stoneware utensils etc. https://lunarsecstacy.com/2021/12/13/kalingan-temple-architecture-and-its-gradual-progression/ https://lunarsecstacy.com/2023/11/10/bramheshwar-temple-firstuse-of-iron-beam-thousand-years-back/ https://lunarsecstacy.com/2021/12/21/a-glaring-example-of-khakhara-architecture-barahi-temple-chaurasi/3
