Is 'Nepali' considered a slur in Mainland states similar to 'Ch*nki'?

I just saw the video posted in this sub from KIIT where a bunch of women were abusing Nepalis. I have a similar issue where I am staying at. So I just shifted to Pune about a month ago and I am having a rather hard time. I was walking past a bunch of local boys once and i could make out that one of the guys said ' Nepali aala' and all of them laughed. And it's not just this one instance but a couple of more too. So any of you from NE states, have you been called Nepali in mainland states ?
