Mysore - Ooty

I have a peculiar scenario where I need car to explore ooty and surroundings, However I won't be returning back to Mysore So, Please advice if it would be good to hire cab with driver or a self drive car for my trip to mysore to ooty. If cab - then is there any self drive optins available in ooty? If self drive - would they allow a one way trip?
