The sorry state of Powai lake I recently moved to Powai and decided to take a morning walk along the promenade by Powai Lake. I was shocked by what I saw—garbage everywhere and Ghutka stains all over the place. I walked the entire promenade hoping to find a cleaner section, but no luck. I had to leave quickly as the stench became unbearable. It’s easy to get defensive when foreigners comment on how dirty our cities are, but maybe it's time to hold city officials accountable instead of brushing it off. A rich city like... 3 11 replies

If Mumbai would have been a land locked city like Delhi its aqi would have easily reached 500. This is the worst aqi for any coastal city in the world. Imagine paying taxes to breathe air like this. 1 10 replies

The Psychology of “Gulami”: A Tale of Language Bias in Hotel A few days ago, I had two contrasting experiences at two hotels—Ramada and Marriott. The difference between them wasn’t just about the service, but something deeper: the role of language and how it shapes perceptions. At the Ramada, I needed a small favor—not something unreasonable, but something that required a bit of flexibility from the staff. I approached the receptionist and explained my request politely, speaking in Hindi. Their response was immediate and rigid: “Sorry, sir, yeh possible nahi hai.” There was no effort to listen, no attempt to... 4 0 replies
Do they still do open defecation I’m Mumbai ? I grew up in Mumbai but left the city some 20 years ago. I understand Mumbai was granted an Open Defecation Free (ODF) certificate in 2017. Does Mumbai continue to have a problem with open defecation? No blaming people, as it is mostly BMC’s fault. 2 0 replies
