Unreasonable Fine by broker and society.

Hi Everyone. So the story is that yesterday night due to a technical issue, the water supply in the building was stopped in the evening. With no guarantee of when will it be fixed, we all in the PG decided to stay at our respective friends' or relatives' place for the night and possibly the next day as well. Fortunately, the water came back around 6am in the morning next day. The problem is, I couldn't double check the taps and it is a new PG I moved in last month only and for around 3.5 hours after the water supply is restored I got a call from my broker that neighbour has complained about water leakage and the society is imposing a fine of 6K. Now, I don't have any problem in paying the fine and I accept that it was my mistake, I am ready to pay the fine but 6K seems a little unreasonable. What should I do in this situation to minimize the fine?
