Rent as a percentage of in-hand salary.

I am currently flat Hunting and just wanted to know the general expenditure idea on rent here since it is the largest chunk of expense. How much amount in percentage do salaried people pay as rent monthly here and what would be a good range to balance it w.r.t your income.
