Zoom in when composing a new email in the mail app?

So, is there a way to zoom in when creating a new mail in the apple mail app? This is for zooming in, NOT increasing the font size used when sending out the email. I have a semi large monitor and not the best eyesight even with glasses. The standard command and + doesn't work. Nor does shift + command and +. Setting high DPI is not an option for me as it messes up another application that I use, and it seems ridiculous to need to set high DPI just to send an email then set it back for everything else.
