    What is the /Volumes/Preboot/ folder?

I recently checked my disk usage and noticed that the /Volumes/Preboot/ folder contains a subdirectory with a long UUID-like name. Inside, I found several folders, including cryptex1, restore, and boot, with cryptex1 taking up over 11GB of space. What exactly is the purpose of the Preboot volume? Why is cryptex1 using so much storage? Is it safe to delete or clear any of these files to free up space? Could this be related to macOS updates, FileVault, or system recovery? Any insights would be appreciated!
