Moving Time Machine files to a new disk

I got a new disk for my Time Machine backup. It's been a few years since I have done this. I see now apple no longer allows you to manually copy the files. Carbon copy cloner is also a no go. I was able to come the files with clonezilla on a linux machine. I mounted it on the Mac and all the Backups are there. I ran disk first aid. It went through all the files fixed some things and gave me the OK. Now that I figured away around the problem I second guessing it it was wise to migrate the old backups, Is this going to come back and bite me in the future? Should I just wipe the new disk and start fresh, I think there may be a reason that Apple & Carbon copy cloner will not let you do this.
