MacOS Sonama download taking way too long

my macbooks been plugged into its charger for around 3 days now, and it still hasn’t finished downloading. i factory reset it so i had to redownload the macos. is this normal? im not sure if i should restart the download or not because i don’t want to lose all my progress.
