I need help installing things 💀

Sorry if this is just me being incredibly dumb, but I have no experience with macos at all and I'm just trying to download minecraft java as a test lol Anyways, I can't get it to install, after I run the .dmg file and move the file into the applications folder. After I open the app from the applications folder, the icon in the toolbar just hops up and down and nothing downloads or installs. I have the option to force quit but I see no window or anything open. Some stuff online said I needed to change permissions in the Privacy and Security tab in Settings, so I went to apple troubleshooter. My macos is on Ventura 13.5, and the troubleshooter instructions weren't an available option for me Any advice? Thanks in advance
