Time machine no longer working with HFS+

My time machine drive is a few years old and it's been working fine with my MacBook. IT's an HDD formed macos journaled. as of January 25, it will no longer back up. I can read the drive fine though. Did they change something recently? I'm on Sonoma 14.6. Is there a bug?
