Please help me decide a laptop for coding and video editing.
Hi everyone, I am a 2nd year engineering student studying CSE. So I recently got myself a Legion 5i with i9 14900hx RTX 4060 and 32 RAM/1TB SSD for 1200 USD from USA by my relatives, but I realised that I won’t game other than playing Valorant sometimes. So now my cousin was in US and I am getting a: 1) M1 pro 14” 10C CPU 16C GPU 16/512 seal packed for 950 USD 2) M2 pro 14” 10C CPU 16C GPU 16/512 new for 1150USD And I can easily sell my Legion in my country for 1350-1400USD My use cases are: 1) Coding 2) Content consumption 3) Graphic designing with Figma and Canva 4) And I plan to do some video editing (4k 120fps footages shot on Iphone 16pro of <5 mins) with brolls and effects and maybe some 2D animations “as a hobby”. For now I don’t know a lot about video editing but I used to do some in my phone when I was 12-13 but nothing professional but I would like to make some good videos in my free time. So I am basically confused which laptop I should get which I can keep for atleast next 5 years: Legion 5i or M1 pro or the M2 pro I am mainly in the dilemma of whether to go for the Macbook because I want to shift to MacOS(although it will be my first Mac) or to choose the Legion as when synthetic benchmarks are compared the Legion smokes both the M1 pro and M2 pro in all the aspects Single core, Multi core and GPU performance but I don’t know I just wanted to get the Macbook I can be completely wrong for wanting a Macbook but I think it has some good advantages like Better battery Better display Better build Kindly help me make a decision with your opinions and advices. Tldr: Have a new Legion 5i with i9 14900hx 4060 32/1TB($1200 USD), planning to sell it as I don’t game much (just play valorant rarely) and getting M1 pro MBP 16/512 for $950 and M2 pro MBP 16/512 for $1150. Will be used for coding, graphic designing, 4k video editing with brollls and 2D animation. Which on to get. Want to shift to MacOS but the performance of Legion is giving FOMO that I might need it in the future.1
