Photos thinks already imported photos from iphone are new

So last year I bought an iphone 15 pro, used my Mac to backup the old phone and restored everything to the new phone so it’s set up exactly the same way. Which means all the photos from my old phone are transferred to the new phone. I also used the Photos app to import my photos from my old phone and store them on an external hard drive. Now when I plug in my new phone, the Photos app does not recognize that those same photos were already imported from my old phone and still thinks they’re new and need importing again. How can I fix this problem? Is there a setting to make them all not new photos?
