Parallels vs VMWare
I currently use a MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro chip. For work, I have to use a Windows-only app, so I am testing Parallels and VMWare Fusion. I installed the latest Parallels application, Windows 11 for ARM from Parallels’ library, and the specific application for work. However, when I launch the application, it fails to run. However, when launching the same application in VMWare Fusion on Windows 11 for ARM downloaded from the app’s library, the software runs fine, and the work-specific application can be launched. I must admit that I did not change any default settings, and both operating systems were installed “out of the box.” Later, to replicate VMware’s installation process, I installed a new operating system in Parallels manually, so the installation process matched that in VMware. What puzzles me is why the same work application, with the same installation file and operating systems with identical versions, can be launched in VMWare but cannot be launched using Parallels. I have contacted app developers; please see their reply below: “We haven’t tried it ourselves, but it should. Parallels provides the necessary emulation for Windows on Arm to work correctly, and Windows on Arm promises full emulation so that x86 and x64 programs can run smoothly.' Would prefer to land with Parallels as direct comparison (in Excel, for the most straightforward comparison) showed better performance (visually) than VMWare. Any help or advice is highly appreciated.3
