Going nuts trying to add a printer
We have 2 older printers, a Canon MX-490 for color and a Brother HL-5740DW for monochrome and 2 sided printing. When I acquired them I just connected them via USB cables to my iMac 27 and shared them on the network so our MacBooks could use them. Everything was fine. Recently I decided that I'm probably going to get rid of the iMac and my wife and I will just use our MacBooks. So I thought, well both printers have WiFi capability so I'll just set that up and print that way. Simple, right? Uh..... NO. The Canon was indeed simple. Connected it our Linksys mesh wifi via WPS and presto, it shows up on the MacBooks and can be added and printed to , no problem. Not so with the Brother. It does connect to the network using WPS. However, it does not show up as available to be added in the Add Printer settings appl. Hmmm, that's not good. So I use the printer control panel to print a report that shows the IP address it's been given by the router. I use that in the Add Printer setting to set it up. The Mac recognizes the correct printer brand and model and lets me set it up. I can view the supply level and even get to the built in web pages of the printer. I can initiate a test page and other reports from the web interface. BUT, when I print to it from any Mac application, the job goes into the print queue and the queue shows the printer as in use and the job waits forever. I've been through this multiple times and am at wits's end on this. Suggestions? Thanks!2
