/etc/hosts redirect not working with Safari, works in other browsers....??

I want to redirect some domains to localhost which I've always done in /etc/hosts Recently that stopped working but only in Safari - the sites do point to localhost from Firefox.. So I guess this is some DNS over HTTPS thing that I don't know anything about.. How can I ensure these are redirected?
