Can I upgrade or do I need to buy something else?

My wife surprised me with a MacBook Pro with Monterey os. I want to be able to use Excel on it but I need macOS version of 13 or higher on it. When I try to update the system it won’t go any higher than 12.7.6. Is there a way for me to upgrade it or do I need to return this and get a different MacBook? Thanks for any insight!
