brand new macbook ports not working

hi! I just recently bought a MacBook Air, it’s the 2018 13.3” version, I’ve had it for two days and I’ve charged it maybe twice during then, I charged it this morning - and halfway through the day I used the USB-C port to charge my phone, now it’s been a few hours since then and nothing has changed I haven’t used my macbook or taking it anywhere since I last charged my phone and all of a sudden the charging ports are not working. both the MacBook charging cable and the iPhone charging cable are working, so that means that the ports are broken? But I’m looking at them and there’s no debris or damage or anything at all inside of them - what happened?
