Help! Legal way to trim/chop down tree in front of houses?

Hey guys, what number or department should we call to shave down the tree a bit in front of our house now that it has overgrown and obstructing high tension cables? I think calling a private person is not legal as the timber is state property? Please guide me here. Thanks!
