Btech student wondering how to get a job

I am a BTech CSE student in my 3rd year and was wondering how I can get a decent job here in Kochi itself. I have a good CGPA as of now (8.1) and am really good at programming. Does anyone have any good tips on how I can get into a good job on my own instead of hoping I will get something good from my college placement?
