  • Autorickshaw Driver Intentionally Damages Our Car Near Kakkanad Civil Station

Today, on New Year’s Day, we had an unpleasant experience near the Kakkanad Civil Station signal, close to the Alakapuri Hotel. Here’s what happened: We were waiting in bumper-to-bumper traffic at the signal heading towards Padamugal. Suddenly, an autorickshaw from the right side attempted to cut across traffic to take the left exit shortcut near the civil station gate. He was in the wrong lane and should have waited in the proper queue, keeping to the left side of the road. Since traffic was heavy and we were correctly in our lane, I didn’t let him through—which was completely justified. This seemed to provoke him. The signal from our side stays green for only a few seconds. As it turned green, we moved forward slowly. The autorickshaw managed to squeeze in front of us. However, seeing some space on the left side, we maneuvered our car and got ahead, leaving only one vehicle between us and the signal. When the signal turned green again, we started moving forward. Out of nowhere, the same autorickshaw sped up from the right side, aggressively cutting us off at the signal to take the left exit. In doing so, he hit our car’s front-right bumper. We stopped and confronted him, but as expected, he was arrogant and unapologetic. Frustrated by his behavior and the damage caused to our car, we called the police. The cops instructed us to come to the station to resolve the matter. It’s incredibly frustrating to deal with such reckless and intentional behavior, especially on the first day of the new year. This autorickshaw driver’s attitude and lack of accountability have left us upset and angry. He has not yet paid us anything and the police said to get the estimate and let the guy know and if he is not cooperative we have to inform the police. We have full cover insurance but how the guy intentionally did what he did needs to be punished. We are planning to move through court for intentional damage of property. Any suggestions or advice are welcome
