Where does the trash go?

One thing that struck me while ago, is where does the trash go, sure when at home there maybe some disposal system, but what about when outside? This struck me when I held my trash with me on a 3 hour bus ride. So obviously is there something we can do to solve this? even though we claim to be much better than the north, this is one place we all are the sesame
