Reverse Vending Machines: Could These Transform Waste Management in Kerala?
Recently, I came across a reverse recycling ATM in Dubai and was fascinated by how it works. Essentially, it rewards users for recycling items like plastic bottles and aluminum cans, offering cash, coupons, or other incentives. In Kerala (or even India as a whole), where waste management is becoming a growing concern, such systems could potentially encourage people to recycle more actively. However, these machines are not widely implemented here. I’d love to hear your thoughts: Would you use a reverse vending machine if it was available in Kerala? What incentives would make you more likely to recycle using such a system? Why do you think such systems haven’t gained traction in our state yet? Is it due to cost, lack of awareness, or other factors? Let’s discuss how relevant and effective this could be for Kerala’s waste management challenges!2
