How to calculate percentile in JEE Advanced?
The percentile in JEE Advanced is calculated using the following formula:
Percentile = (Number of candidates with a raw score EQUAL TO OR LESS than yours / Total number of candidates in the session) x 100
Key Points to Remember:
- • Raw Score: This is the total marks you obtain in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of JEE Advanced.
- • Normalization: JEE Advanced uses a normalization process to ensure fairness across different exam sessions. This process adjusts raw scores to account for any variations in difficulty levels between sessions.
- • Subject-wise Percentile: In addition to the overall percentile, JEE Advanced also provides subject-wise percentiles (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics), calculated using the same formula.
- • Category-wise Percentile: Separate percentiles are calculated for different categories (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, etc.)
Understanding Percentile:
- Your percentile indicates the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or lower than you in the exam. A higher percentile signifies a better performance relative to other candidates. For example, if your percentile is 90, it means you performed better than 90% of the candidates who appeared in that session.
Important Note:
- The actual calculation of percentile and normalisation is done by the exam conducting body (one of the IITs). You don't need to calculate it yourself. The official JEE Advanced website will release the results along with individual percentiles and ranks.
Remember: Percentile is a relative measure of your performance compared to other candidates. Focus on maximizing your raw score, and the percentile will reflect your standing in the exam.
