What's the most eco-friendly way to dispose off old books

Okay so my mother's been angry at me for not throwing away my old books which I had since class 9th till my Drop year, so the collection is kinda big filled with some good knowledge and few of my self made notes. I too desire to give away these books but don't want to sell it for scrap but rather want to give it to someone who really needs them but I'll be open to more suggestions regarding my problem.
