Did Indira Gandhi really export the royal treasures of Rajput kings out of India ?
I have been in Jaipur for quite a while now. And what I have observed is that it is a common knowledge among the local populace here in Jaipur, albeit with slight variations from person person about this story. Some talks about the never ending convoys of trucks that travelled out of amer fort ( and the nearby forts ) fully loaded with shyahi khajanaa, and being exported out of India . Some says these treasures are very much in India itself, but hidden by the Gandhi family .. so on and so fort. Last time I visited Amer fort, i stoped by a souvenir bookstore to peer at the collection of books. I was peeking through a Maharani Gayatri Devi autobiography and started a small talk with the shop owner. The topic was of course Maharani Gayatri Devi and hence it became political. And then of course the topic changed to Indira Gandhi and in no time we were taking turns at cursing at Indira Gandhi. He ( shop owner ) lamented at how Gayatri Devi was mistreated by Mrs Gandhi. I added how Indira Gandhi deployed air boming in Aizawl city ( I am from Northeast ). Anyways, coming back to topic here, I tried to read more on these Indira and 'her tryst with Jaipur royal treasures' stories but so far I haven't found anything concrete , no news report , no documents etc. What I get is that these are all rumoured stories. Can you guys suggest some reputed source to read on this. Thank you.4
