Reddit using too much of Data!

Is there any specific reason why Reddit uses high amount of data? I mean the UI is pretty clean with not much of videos either yet it consumes more than 1gb in an hour of scrolling. I’m a heavy WiFi user connected in Home/Office so never worried about data as such and only use my mobile data during my tea breaks and gym sessions for music. YouTube where i watch HD quality videos doesn’t seem to take that much of data whereas only text elements (mostly) seem to eat this much of data.
