Religious Value and Culture in ITV- Question

In ITV, many serial show 2nd marriage of husband and wife... But at the same I remember many serials have shown that then performing shradh and others puja for former( dead spouses) after their 2nd marriage too....( Specially they have shown for husband performing for decreased wife)... Is that actually happened in real life too that spouse can perform shradh and other puja for former spouse after 2nd ... Or just a ITV thing. Anyone's have any idea?
